After a lot of hype, the Segway seems to have quietly disappeared from the news lately. I just did a little research on it and it is indeed still around. It is still around, and I still feel its not that useful.
Sure, there are many times when we move around that a big heavy car isn't necessary, but the Segway is so close to walking, you might as well walk. There is still a large gap between highway speed vehicles and around-town, city vehicles.
This is where something like a golf cart can come in very handy. Able to carry more than one person, offer shelter from the elements, and don't require as much energy to move around, a small electric vehicle would be well worth the investment. They also don't take up as much room as a car.
Here's an interesting page at wikipedia about Neighborhood Electric Vehicles.
